Big Gig 2009

Big Gig 09

On 17th October we went to the Big Gig 2009. We saw: Pikie Lott, Alexandra Burke, Alphabeat, the Noisettes, Taio Cruize, Chipmunk, JLS, the Saturdays and Scouting for Girls. We think the most popular act was JLS, but our personal favourites were: JLS, Scouting for Girls, the Noisettes and Taio Cruize. The crowd was wild. When JLS came out we were literally deafened and when Aston introduced himself the crowd went even crazier. The first song they sang was 'Beat Again'. The screaming was so loud we couldn't hear them singing. Scouting for Girls were also amazing and really got the crowd involved. They were very entertaining and we think it was a perfect ending to a terrific night. The Big Gig 2009, in our opinion was the best Big Gig we've attended. In fact, I think it tops every concert we've attended. It was quite a quick journey and when we got there everyone was so excited. We had quite good seats, good enough to get some great pictures. As we were having so much fun it went quickly and our throats were dry by the end. Once it ended our ears felt really funny. We didn't want it to end. We feel the Gig Gig 2009 was a night we will never forget and we're sure it's not just us who feel that way.

I'm a Guide Get Me Out of Here Camp

A group of 21 Guides and 7 Guiders from around the District enjoyed a fun packed weekend at Cudham. Not put off by the weather, the girls had a brilliant time. They cooked their own lunch and made cardboard box ovens.

They rose to a variety of challenges in the style of 'I'm a celebrity... get me out of here'. They had to rescue stars from the goo - 'baked beans'; followed a blindfold trail; walked through 'maggots' - spaghetti; climbed through the 'spider's web'; negotiated the assault course carrying a cup of water and slid down the water slide. They certainly earned their shower that day! The evening meal was supplemented by the 'bush tucker trial'. Other activities during the weekend included archery and grass sleding.

Strong winds and heavy rain battered the camp site during the early hours of the morning, but nothing that tired Guiders and a mallet couldn't sort out. Miraculously we managed to take down all the tents in the dry! Thanks to all you helped to make the weekend such a success!

Rita Egan retired from Guiding after 43 years of service! Although Rita officially retired as an active Guider some years ago, she remained a loyal assistant to Roo, and continued to manage the unit accounts for 6th Strood Guides until July of this year.

Guiders, new and old, joined her for a surprise tea party, where Rita was presented with flowers, cards and gifts.

Rita remains a regular member of the Strood Trefoil Guild, and an active committee member of the Strood Town Friends of Guiding.
